The number of locations is a somewhat complicated calculation, but is essentially the number of open and active distinct business locations with at least one customer review. You can connect multiple review sources and listing destinations to a single parent record, but this is still just one location. Departments within a location (e.g.,, the sales and service department of an auto dealership) are provide at no charge and do not add to the location total. Distinct businesses at the same address (for example, the Audi dealership and the Volkswagen dealership in one building) would be additional billable locations.

Choosing the right category for your business is a critical optimization step. Since Google strives to accurately match user queries with the most relevant local businesses, you need to balance potential exposure of broad categories with your relative competitiveness within a more targeted category. For example, if your business focus is as a “bankruptcy attorney”, you should not pursue the generic “attorney” category and end up 80th in map result. You gain significantly greater exposure in the top-3 map pack for your focused category. We’d be thrilled to talk to you about your business focus and which of the 4,000 Google categories offers the potential for the greatest success.
The good news is “Google’s local search signals are considered well know”. There is a specific set of guidelines that brands of all sizes can take to optimize their listings to achieve maximum search rankings. The bad is “Google’s signals include several elements of user generated content”. So, you need to follow a specific set of guidelines outlined by Google AND actively engage with your customers in ways that your competition isn’t willing or able to do. LocalClarity was built to help to understand and execute against both aspects.
