Summary

LocalClarity has launched RealityCheck™, providing instant visibility into discrepancies between official GBP data and what Google is choosing to present to the public, enabling you to identify and correct misinformation before it impacts customer experience or gets amplified by AI-powered search engines.

Background

Google continues to expand the breadth and complexity of Business Profile listing data, now maintaining over one hundred distinct data points that directly influence how your locations' search presence, map rankings, and AI-generated responses. To populate these data points, Google is stretching beyond your website landing pages and data uploads to include what they can find in user suggestions, social media posts, indexed articles, review content, and even competitive interference, often without your awareness or consent.

These "suggested" updates are then published to the web without changing your official GBP listing data. While some updates can be valuable additions and increase your search discovery, others can misrepresent your business and damage your brand. The stakes have never been higher. With the rise of AI-driven search experiences, incorrect attributes don't just mislead individual customers, they become training data for AI models that will perpetuate and amplify these errors at scale.

Description

RealityCheck™ addresses this critical challenge by performing daily automated comparisons between what Google displays publicly and your authorized business information. The system monitors every discoverable data point including:

  • Location Name
  • Address Details
  • Phone Numbers
  • Website URL
  • Description
  • Store Open Information
  • Regular Hours
  • Special & Holiday Hours
  • Primary Category
  • Additional Categories
  • Attributes
  • Social Media Links
  • Relationships "Located in"

When discrepancies are detected, RealityCheck™ immediately flags the specific fields requiring attention, displaying both the public value and your official data side-by-side. This granular visibility enables rapid correction through Google's Business Profile interface or API, ensuring your accurate business information reaches customers before misinformation becomes embedded in their—and AI's—understanding of your business.

User can then easily accept or reject the updates so make certain all data points across all listings represent your reality. These update records are available for 60 days to provide transparency to the flow of your listing corrections over time.

What's Next

We will soon extend the data sets analyzed to include geographic pin points, service offerings and the expanded lodging attribute set. The comparisons will then be extended across Apple Business Connect and Bing Places for Business.
