Previously only available to users who elected to opt into Search Labs, the AI Mode option, as of May 2025, will now appear under the search bar on Google and in the Google Search apps for all US users, no opt in necessary. This feature allows users to ask a question and receive detailed and expansive answers driven by updates including Deep Search, complex analysis, Live Search, personal context, agentic checkout, and Gemini 2.5.

These updates provide enhanced search results with minimal legwork from the searcher and have been found to increase search length by up to five times, engaging users on a more thorough level. Additionally, by being on a separate tab of Google and not the default top Google Search result like AI Overviews, it offers a more tailored user experience driven by choice and intent.
