Short Names Being Removed From Business Profiles
Google has stopped showing the business short names on Google Business Profiles in Search and Google Maps.
Google has phased out the short name feature on Google Business Profiles. Users with existing custom URLs (like customsite/YourBusinessNameHere) will continue to function as of writing. However, Google is stripping these links from public view on Google Search and Maps.
If you currently use a short name, here is how this update affects your profile:
- Visibility: Short names will no longer be displayed on your Business Profile to you or your customers.
- Creation/Editing: The ability to create new short names or edit existing ones has been disabled.
- Reporting: Customers can no longer report or flag existing short names, as the option has been removed from the interface.
- Functionality: Existing links and URLs will still work if shared directly, but they are no longer a supported "feature" of the profile display.
Google introduced short names in 2019 to help businesses create branded, easy-to-remember links for their profiles. According to the announcement from Google, this move is part of a broader initiative to "simplify the product experience."
